Experience Easter 2015
Children from St Bridgets and Avalon Schools were invited to explore together God’s love illustrated using a theme centred on ‘gardens’. Bible stories used were: the Garden of Eden, the Parable of the Sower, the last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection. Children spent time at each story station in groups of 12 coming together at the end of the session for the good news of Jesus’ Resurrection. At each ‘station’ volunteers from St Bridgets, Caldy and Laird Street Baptist churches introduced the story and encouraged the children to participate and interact in various ways. For example, they each had a ‘wordle’ in the shape of a cross on which they wrote words that described what they had heard or felt about each of the stories. At other times they operated the puppet theatre, moved play mobile figures to act the story of Jesus’ arrest, put stones at the foot of the cross to symbolise leaving difficult things there and took bread and blackcurrant juice to re-enact the last supper event.
Some 550 children took part during the week and over the sessions, some 25 adult volunteers in all guided the retelling of the stories, cultivated seeds for the sower, brought plants for the scenery, provided baked bread, retrieved paper and pencils and stuck paper chains…. All had great fun.
